Inquiry + Analysis
A series of contextual interviews were completed with PG County Senior card holders to investigate the common patterns, desires, and needs. An identity model, relationship model, and affinity diagram were created to illustrate our key findings from our inquiry period.
Key Findings
Goal-based events with incentives, such as different prizes upon completion, were very appealing to participants.
Seniors responded
well to gamification
Some found the online signup processes and marketing to be decently manageable while others preferred to completely avoid the online experience entirely; often enjoying physical copies of items instead to serve as reminders.
Mixed reviews for online engagement platforms
Participants gravitated towards events that implemented safe practices and guidelines while still allowing them to engage with others.
Seniors preferred simplified class structures, allowances for independence or socialization within their peer groups, and accommodations for various time/work schedule, locations, and age related needs.
Simplified and Accommodating
Seniors are highly influenced by their immediate friend group and club friends when deciding when and how to engage with events.
Close Friends Highly Influence Behavior
Conceptual Design
We decided to move forward with 4 different designs that all aided in the seniors' engagement. In this case, I will be focusing on the QR Code solution which was further refined after the project finished for the semester. This solution utilizes a QR code on the back of their current Senior Access Card to allow for easy sign-up and sharing of particular events for a mobile application. The system does the following:
Reflection
In the future, I would like to gain further feedback through user testing on the current QR Code Conceptual design. I would also like to conduct additional interviews with non-card holders to see if this would be a feasible solution and increase desire to become a card holder
