The Question

After surviving the pandemic, Method Inc. wanted a fun way to revitalize their new office to help reintegrate employees into an unfamiliar space. How can we utilize augmented reality in a way that speaks to Method culture, expertise, and digital exploration within the workplace?

Design Process Overview

How Might We...

Demonstrate
Demonstrate AR expertise to potential clients in order to increase trust and invest in Method's client services.
Acclimate
Provide a comforting and fun/delightful aid during Charlotte employee’s workplace reintegration
To understand the office reintegration process and client-company relationship dynamics, we conducted interviews and surveys utilizing Miro board activities.

User Goals

Employees Wanted...

Features that balance both work utility and social delight.
Organization
A workspace that amplified and spoke to Method culture as a way to motivate and energize the company purpose.
Clear organization and structure for a successful work environment.
Balance
Method-y
Socializing
Water cooler talk and social micro-interactions to help new and returning employees form a good social ecosystem.
Business Goals

Method Wanted...

Method was looking for a solution that increased client trust and illustrated a forward-thinking mentality. To achieve this the solution should be:

1.

2.

3.

Experimental, Educational + Demonstrative

Replicable In Other Locations
Delightful and Eye Catching Experience

Conceptual Design

We decided to move forward with 2 different design concepts that we thought would best showcase Method as a forward-thinking company, while also catering to new employees.
An interactive platform for users to express their office selves virtually through an avatar experience. An avatar creation application that allows employees and clients to share fun facts, real time action statuses, and links to one-on-one meetings via Google Calendar.
Metho-tars
A virtual demonstration and Easter Egg hunt of Method’s past work and design efforts. Allows Method to showcase note-able and impactful past work to current and prospective clients, with a bonus highlight reel containing AR Easter Eggs.
Hall of Fame

Utilized Method's iconic logo colors.

Scan QR codes located on object figurines located around the building.

Employees can check scores to stimulate competitive workplace fun.

Allow new and returning office goers to find different areas in the office.

Reflection

If I had additional time to continue this project, I would like to further research the capabilities of AR within way-finding and how users might interact with these AR objects within a physical space. Lastly, I would like to further test how these social interactions could help amplify socialization and friendly competition to form lasting bonds.
Fellow intern, Stephen Schmitz had the privilege of leading design and technical research for this project however it was not without great guidance and care from our advisory, stakeholder and expert members who helped make this possible.
